Rather then saying main, I would use initial.
Because I could easily see a plan for MC to collect the controlling shares in the companies and properties that is put up as collateral. Which in the case of the company would (most likely) result in controlling shares of the whole company.

But that is something that comes slowly, like any other well thought out and executed plan.

Maybe because Korea is a small country, it makes sense that the mayor of the capital can run for presidential election. But your comment was the first thing that came to my mind when i read the chapter

In reply to <a href="https://culturedworks.com/reborn-rich-chapter-80/#comment-698">Kalpit</a>.

You know what, that does make sense. A quick search shows that apparently South Korea in terms of size when compared to US states is slightly bigger than the size of the state of Indiana but slightly smaller than Kentucky and Tennessee respectively (meaning both states by themselves are bigger in terms of size to South Korea). Meanwhile, South Korea's population is much much higher compared to those states, with South Korea having a population of 51.78 million people as of 2023 (compared to it's 1998 population of 46.29 million people which is when the manwha is currently set in).

So yes, my earlier argument still holds but it does originate from me being American. America is a BIG country with a lot of land and a lot of people so what I said about how you have to go up the political ladder level by level still holds. But yes, in a much smaller country like South Korea, the size and importance of Seoul would be much more emphasized and amplified so yeah, a mayor of Seoul would probably have a better chance of being able to directly campaign for President, on the same level as a Governor of the 9 Provinces that make up South Korea. A relatable comparison would be that the mayor of a major metropolitan city like New York City, Los Angeles, Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Boston, Austin, Seattle, etc. would have a pretty good shot at being able to run for Governor of the State as a County Commissioner would.

With all that being said, Dojoon's Uncle still doesn't have the experience, record, clout, reputation, and influence in politics and among politicians to be able to run for President and Dojoon's Grandfather is pretty unlikely to support him because of his lacking qualifications. Gramps doesn't back losing horses after all. Maybe if Dojoon's Uncle had 1-2 more terms as Seoul Mayor in order to create a record and reputation, he'd have a better shot.

Hey, at least we all learned something new in this discussion today.

In reply to <a href="https://culturedworks.com/reborn-rich-chapter-80/#comment-681">Easy Going</a>.

You know what, that is a valid point that Seoul, the economic epicenter of South Korea, would have a lopsided effect on the national level.

I mean, there are exceptions to the norm, like the one you've mentioned, but there are good reasons why that isn't the norm, why you have to usually work your way up to the national level from the city level. The difference in scope is substantial between the city level and the country level. Not any outsider with no experience in politics can make it to the presidency. Working their way up level by level (city, then state/province, then Parliament/Congress/National Assembly, and then Presidency/Prime Ministership). That way, you get experience, reputation/clout/name recognition, and you get influence with and over the National level politicians who will need to be on your side in order to get your agenda through.

.

Does Dojoon's Uncle have any of that going for him? No, he doesn't. That's why Dojoon's Grandfather would obviously not approve of Dojoon's Uncle trying to run for President because the foundation is non-existent. If he wanted a President of South Korea in his pocket, then Dojoon's Grandfather already has hundreds of other established politicians, especially those in the National Assembly, who would be better qualified to run for and win the Presidency than the much inexperienced, unqualified, and non-influential Dojoon's Uncle.

.

A presidential campaign would be Dead On Arrival for Dojoon's Uncle. He doesn't have the experience, record, reputation, or influence necessary.

Grandfather is aware that Dojoon owns Fantasy Investment since Gramps had to buy dollars from Fantasy Investments because of the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis going on. That's why Fantasy was also able to get Daeah Construction in secret partnership with Soonyang (Gramps).
